Panhandle ILC’s Doug Hammett and Joe Rogers are the newest Mayoral appointees to Amarillo’s Advisory Commission for People with Disabilities (ACPD).

The seven member body advises the Amarillo City Commission in several ways. The ACPD develops statistical data about people with disabilities, promotes elimination of structural barriers and ensures accessible transportation. Another vital role is to study important disability issues and promote local understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Doug serves as a Consumer Coordinator at PILC in addition to conducting outreach. Joe is the Center’s Transportation Coordinator and manages the TxDot Travel Training project. Their positions on the ACPD enable them to be more aware of current disability issues and concerns within the community.

Joe said he is honored to be appointed by the Amarillo Mayor and will continue to work closely with the City Transit staff. Doug also looks forward working with other Commission members to help ensure equal access and full integration in the community.
